HOW IT STARTED

"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."

                                                                                           -Pablo Picasso

This is a statement I truly believe in. I'm thankful for my decisions that have led me to continue to pursue art. Specifically ceramics. Ceramics is an art medium that you can continue to explore over an entire lifetime. When I started this studio, my goal was to create art that wasn't just beautiful but that was also funtional.

HOW IT'S GOING

One thing that I love about art is the depths of emotions that it can reach and draw out. Since I founded this business, my goal for creating a connection has not changed. When you buy my ceramic art, I want you to feel like what you are holding is special and made with love because that is true for each and every piece.

THE ARTIST

Welcome to Thorpe Ceramics. My name is Emily Thorpe, and I am a ceramic artist in the state of Utah, USA. As I mentioned above, I grew up loving art, and carried a sketchbook with me everywhere I went. I quietly kept it as a passion in my teenage and early adult years while pursuing a different career. My decision to go back to school was a difficult one, and I initially wanted to choose a “safer path,” so like many ceramic artists, I did not intend to pursue an art degree at college.

However, I decided to take a ceramics class to fulfill my general education requirement. Although it was not my first exposure to clay, there was something so enthralling about working on a potter’s wheel that I was hooked. After careful consideration, I changed my degree to a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in ceramics. I converted a storage space into a studio and embarked on my new life’s journey as an artist. It has all been worth it.
